Assault victim thanks Pahang Crown Prince for support in case

Alias Awang grateful to Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah for ensuring justice

3:42 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – A former construction worker who claimed he was assaulted by a Pahang royal member and others in June has thanked Tengku Mahkota Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, for helping to ensure justice.

Alias Awang, 44, who is currently unemployed, said that Tengku Mahkota Pahang had extended his assistance in the matter.

“I just want to thank Tengku Mahkota Pahang for helping and bringing justice to me.

“However, since the case is now in court, let the law take its course,” he said, as reported by the media.

The case gained attention after Alias alleged he was attacked by a Pahang royal and several individuals in June.

Following this, Tengku Hassanal called for a full, fair, and transparent police investigation.

“If wrongdoing is proven, it must be brought to court for charges and trial.

“All parties are equal before the law, and I will never protect any individual, including members of the royal family, involved in any crime or legal offence,” he said.

Yesterday, a royal family member and a police officer were among five men charged in the Kuantan Magistrate’s Court for causing injury to a man using a knife in June.

The accused, Tengku Eddie Akasya Tengku Abd Rahman, 20; Nik Norhisham Affendi Nik Mohd Zani, 39; Mohd Fouzi Md Nur, 44; Mohd Taufik Daud, 32; and Khairul Azhar Rosli, 38, pleaded not guilty and requested a trial before Magistrate Raja Norshuzianna Shakila Raja Mamat.

Tengku Eddie Akasya is a nephew of the Sultan of Pahang.

They were charged with intentionally injuring Alias’s right thigh using a knife at a stable lot on Jalan Teluk Sisek at 12.20 am on June 6.

The prosecution cited Section 324 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any combination of these upon conviction.

Alias, a father of eight, said in a prior report that the assault was tied to a land dispute in Rompin, where he was involved in road construction. – November 8, 2024.
