KUALA LUMPUR — Flash floods struck parts of the Klang Valley this morning, ahead of a high tide and heavy rain warning which takes effect from tomorrow until Monday.
The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) issued the warning on X for high tides off Port Klang that are expected from Nov 13 to 18, reminding residents and road users to take precautions and prepare for possible flooding.
The situation will peak on early Friday morning at around 5am with waves reaching 5.5 m, and on Saturday morning around the same time and in the evening around 6.18pm, with waves reaching 5 m in height.
Both days will also see rain and thunderstorms during the daytime and in the evening.
This morning, various X users reported floods after a spell of rain in Bandar Bukit Raja in Klang, Taman Sungai Kapar Indah in Kapar, and in Kota Damansara, Persiaran Surian Damansara and Taman Pelangi Damansara in Petaling Jaya.
As of around 10.30am, X users reported floods in Shah Alam before exiting the ELITE Highway.
Earlier, the Malaysian Highway Authority reported flooded roads leading from Bandar Utama to Penchala at 8.16 am, causing traffic to come to a stop.
On the Federal Highway, the road before the ramp leading to Kg Kerinchi was also flooded, causing traffic to build up as vehicles moved slowly.
Earlier, at 8.09 am, Bernama on X reported five cars trapped in flood waters along Persiaran Surian Damansara-Taman Pelangi Damansara, in Petaling Jaya.
It quoted Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar saying the flood waters were receding and no victims were reported. – November 12, 2024
