‘Give me space’, cosmetics entrepreneur Vida pleads amid seizure of vehicles

Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman posts video of her strolling around in supposedly overseas location, with caption saying she sought legal help to resolve issues linked to RM1.06 mil debt

12:14 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Cosmetics entrepreneur Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, commonly known as Datuk Seri Vida, has secured the help of legal counsel after several of her vehicles were seized by the high court here over her failure to pay over RM1.06 million to a renovation contractor.

Taking to social media, Hasmiza, 53, said she is taking the issue seriously and appealed to be given space to deal with the matter “calmly and professionally.”

“I have appointed a lawyer to advise and help me resolve this issue in the best way according to existing laws…I appreciate the support shown by all quarters,” she added in the caption of her Instagram post.

The post featured a video of Hasmiza and her daughter Nur Edlynn Zamilleen, also known as Cik B, strolling around a neighbourhood at a supposedly overseas location to the soundtrack of Indonesian singer Bunga Citra Lestari’s Harta Berharga.

Yesterday, it was reported that the court had seized two Toyota Vellfires, a Toyota Grand Hiace and a BMW X7 from Hasmiza’s home in Meru, Perak. Authorities, however, were unable to enter the businesswoman’s bedroom as it was locked.

On October 29 last year, the high court reportedly ordered Hasmiza to pay the amount she owed to Ah Design Communication Sdn Bhd since 2018 over the renovation of a Shah Alam factory into a studio.

The court recently granted the company’s application for a writ of seizure and sale after she failed to settle the debt.

In the event of Hasmiza failing to settle the debt within two weeks, all the items seized will be put up for auction.

Hasmiza, who has gained both supporters and critics online due to her flamboyant and jewellery-clad appearance, is often regarded as a self-made millionaire who has marketed herself as the face of her homegrown brand, Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd.

The former teacher was also the Football Association of Kelantan (Kafa) honourary advisor for 20016/2017. During her tenure, Kafa agreed for her to sponsor the football team, with Hasmiza imposing two conditions on the deal.

The conditions were to change the team’s name to Pamoga Qu Puteh The Red Warriors – adding the name of one of her products to the famous team, and that Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV in Kota Bharu be painted pink.

While the sponsorship deal was meant to last until 2017, Hasmiza said in October 2016 that Vida Beauty would not be sponsoring the team for the 2017 season as she was disappointed with the Red Warriors’ performance. – November 26, 2024
