KUALA LUMPUR – The family of Tan Sri T. Ananda Krishnan has announced details of a wake to honour the late business magnate and philanthropist, who passed away on November 28, 2024, at 86.

The prominent corporate figure will be honoured at the public wake tomorrow (December 3) from 5pm to 9pm at 120 Jalan Berhala, Brickfields, in Kuala Lumpur.

“The family has requested that the wake be a quiet affair, with no wreaths, flowers, or garlands,” they said in an announcement.

His funeral, scheduled for Wednesday, will be a private ceremony attended only by close family members.

The family has requested the public and media to respect their wishes, adding that relevant information and materials will be shared as necessary.

In a heartfelt tribute on Saturday, Ananda’s children—Tinge (Kunju), Siripanyo (Timmy), and Indrani—shared how their father spent his final months reflecting on his extraordinary life.

They revealed he had been battling progressive lung disease and spent his final days in the Swiss Alps surrounded by family. Despite his illness, Ananda remained active, working on projects and enjoying time on his boat in Turkey earlier this year.

“Over the last few weeks and months, so much of his reminiscing revolved around the people he met throughout his life: how fortunate he felt to have made such good friends, and to have received so much goodwill and support over the years,” they wrote.

Known for his reserved nature, Ananda valued relationships deeply, though he rarely expressed emotions outwardly.

A pioneer in corporate Malaysia, Ananda founded Maxis Bhd, Astro Malaysia Holdings, and Measat while also contributing to major property developments like Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).

His philanthropic efforts, particularly through the Yu Cai Foundation, supported education and underserved communities, leaving a lasting legacy.

Ranked as Malaysia’s third-richest individual by Forbes in 2024 with a net worth of US$5.1 billion (RM22.89 billion), Ananda was renowned for his strategic foresight and visionary investments. – December 2, 2024
