Heeding PM’s call: MRCB gives RM1 mil for flood relief

Conglomerate responds to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's urging of private sector to be more involved in helping flood victims

3:09 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – MRCB Bhd has stepped forward with a generous contribution of RM1 million to aid flood victims, heeding Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for the private sector to play a role in alleviating the suffering caused by recent floods.

During a flood aid collection event at Kompleks Seri Perdana today, MRCB group managing director Datuk Imran Salim handed over a mock cheque to the prime minister, underscoring the private sector’s swift response to the government’s appeal.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, expressed his gratitude for the corporate sector’s involvement, emphasising that such contributions, alongside efforts by the federal and state governments, local authorities, and government agencies, reflect the collective strength of Malaysians in addressing public challenges.

“The government welcomes the concern shown by the corporate sector in assisting flood victims. As of October, GLCs have channelled aid worth over RM10 million,” Anwar shared.

“Insya-Allah, today I will also receive flood relief donations from leading private companies, with total contributions exceeding RM35 million. Therefore, in this august hall, on behalf of the Senate, I extend my appreciation to all,” he added during the tabling of the Supply Bill 2025 for the second reading at the Dewan Negara.

In a recent speech at the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly, Anwar reiterated his call for private sector involvement in flood relief efforts, whether through financial contributions or aid machinery. He praised the quick response, noting, “Within two days, we managed to raise RM35 million without any additional campaigns.”

Meanwhile, the number of flood victims in affected states decreased slightly this morning to 65,899 compared to 67,453 last night. However, Kelantan, Pahang, and Johor saw minor increases in affected individuals, while Terengganu, Perak, and Kedah recorded decreases, and Melaka remained unchanged.

The prime minister’s call and the private sector’s swift action, including MRCB’s significant donation, highlight the importance of unity in overcoming natural disasters. – December 4, 2025
