KUALA LUMPUR – Disco fever is set to light up Kuching as legendary international band Boney M launches its highly anticipated 50th Anniversary Tour at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on January 4, 2024.

State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah hailed the concert – led by original member Maizie Williams – as a major milestone for Sarawak’s entertainment and tourism industries.

“I am thrilled to announce that Kuching has been chosen as the first stop for Boney M’s monumental anniversary tour,” he said at a press conference today, according to Bernama.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience one of the world’s most legendary bands live on stage,” Abdul Karim added, expressing confidence that such events will elevate Sarawak’s status as a top cultural and entertainment destination.

Founded in 1974, Boney M became a global sensation with their infectious blend of disco, pop, and reggae, delivering timeless hits like “Rasputin,” “Daddy Cool,” “Ma Baker,” and “Rivers of Babylon.”

The concert, titled Boney M 50th Anniversary Tour, is organised by Lo-Fi Entertainment and Front Row Entertainment as part of the band’s golden jubilee. Following the Kuching show, the tour will head to Mega Star Arena, Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur on January 12.

With the state aiming to fully revive its tourism sector next year and targeting five million visitors, events like this are expected to draw music lovers and tourists alike.

Adding a Sarawakian flair, local sensation At Adau will open the show with their unique fusion of traditional sape melodies and modern instrumentation, promising an ambiance of traditional contemporary world music.

Tickets, priced between RM188 and RM688 (VIP), are available at www.ticketingtix.com.– December 17, 2024
