KUALA LUMPUR – The federal government is committed to ensuring expenditures are distributed fairly to all states, including those under opposition administration, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Putrajaya has taken two main approaches to distribute allocations fairly, state grants directly allocated to state governments and development expenditure allocations, which cover development projects implemented by the federal government in the states.

For state grants, a significant amount of funding has been allocated for 2024 and 2025.

– Perlis: RM210.62 million in 2024 and RM215.97 million in 2025
– Kedah: RM523.86 million in 2024 and RM532.07 million in 2025
– Kelantan: RM380.26 million in 2024 and RM429.05 million in 2025
– Terengganu: RM431.78 million in 2024 and RM450.12 million in 2025.

These grants cover several key areas, including per capita grants based on population, state road maintenance grants through the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) and development allocation grants, as well as shared list grants for public libraries, state museums, and the tourism sector.

Additionally, development expenditure allocations have shown significant increases.

– Perlis: RM635.27 million in 2024 and RM643.06 million in 2025
– Kedah: RM1,786.80 million in 2024 and RM2,236.23 million in 2025
– Kelantan: RM2,795.11 million in 2024 and to RM3,194.65 million in 2025
– Terengganu:RM1,597.84 million in 2024 and RM1,844.33 million in 2025

Major projects planned under these allocations include flood mitigation and water supply initiatives. For flood mitigation projects:

– Perlis: RM8.7 million in 2024 and RM15.0 million in 2025
– Kedah: RM73.7 million in 2024 and RM132.0 million in 2025
– Kelantan: RM229.0 million in 2024 and RM146.19 million in 2025
– Terengganu: RM46.1 million in 2024 and RM77.1 million in 2025

For water supply projects:

– Perlis: RM35.0 million in 2024 and RM11.0 million in 2025
– Kedah: RM155.1 million in 2024 and RM78.6 million in 2025
– Kelantan: RM11.2 million in 2024 and RM515.6 million in 2025
– Terengganu: RM4.6 million in 2024 and RM2.6 million in 2025

These measures are part of efforts to narrow the development gap between states and ensure that all Malaysians benefit from the nation’s progress, the finance minister said during a press conference in Subang yesterday, attended by around 100 local and international journalists. – December 22, 2024
