Petronas targets 2 mil barrels a day in 3 years

Increase will be from 1.7 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2024

11:27 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Petroliam Nasional Berhad is aiming to use key projects over the next three years to boost the country’s oil and gas output, the national oil company said in its activity outlook report.

The projects include the Kasawari gas development off Sarawak state on Borneo, and the redevelopment of the Gumusut-Kakap, Bekok, Tabu and Seligi oil and gas fields, among others, it said in its report for 2025-2027.

Its target is to grow and sustain the country’s oil and gas production at 2 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe) per day within the three years, an increase from 1.7 mmboe in 2024.

It projects around 15 exploration wells to be drilled each year, for the next two years.

These efforts will focus on shallow-water wells and deepwater wells, it said in its report.

As for upstream development projects, the outlook remains steady for the next three years, with 69 development wells in 2025 compared to 56 last year.

Altogether, for the next three years, Petronas forecasts more than 400 wells of different categories to be drilled.

39 upstream projects are also targeted for implementation, including the construction of three offshore central processing platforms, three onshore facilities, and fabrication and installation of about 900 kms of pipelines. — February 1, 2025
