KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested a pawn shop worker in Kuala Terengganu to assist in investigations into the murder of a businesswoman whose body was found by the riverside near the Tanjung Lumpur Bridge here last Thursday.

Kuantan district police chief ACP Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the 42-year-old man was detained at his workplace at 10.30am yesterday, Bernama reported.

“Based on preliminary investigations, a man had visited the pawn shop and pawned a gold bracelet believed to belong to the victim, estimated to be worth RM30,000.

“We found that only the victim’s gold bracelet was pawned. The pawn shop worker has been remanded for a week starting today to assist in the investigation.

“The remand order was issued this morning by the Kuantan Magistrate’s Court to allow further investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said when contacted today.

Wan Mohd Zahari confirmed that the murder of the 37-year-old businesswoman, identified as Norshamira Zainal, was motivated by robbery.

Yesterday, police arrested a 53-year-old man at a residential area in Wakaf Tembesu, Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu, at 5.30am. Several items, including a ring, cash, clothing, and documents, were seized to assist in the investigation.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days from yesterday as investigations continue under Section 302 of the Penal Code. – February 16, 2025
