KUALA LUMPUR — Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for resolving a long-standing housing issue affecting the Indian community in Bestari Jaya, Tanjung Karang, after a 27-year delay. 

Ramanan, who oversees Indian community affairs, said the prime minister remains committed to addressing issues faced by the Indian community.

“The Madani Government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim often pays attention to issues related to all races, including Indians.

“On behalf of the Indian community, I extend my ‘nandri’ (thanks) to the prime minister and the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) for successfully resolving this matter,” he said in a statement today. 

He also expressed appreciation to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming for helping to make the project a reality.

Ramanan, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sungai Buloh, said the prime minister is regularly updated on issues affecting the Indian community and the initiatives undertaken by government agencies to address them.

He said the government, through KPKT, has approved the Harmoni Madani People’s Residency Programme (PRR) Bestari Jaya, a housing project with an estimated cost of RM75 million—with RM40 million allocated by the federal government and RM35 million by the Selangor state government.

The project will be developed on 8.09 hectares of land donated by Berjaya Corporation Berhad (BCB) at Ladang Tinggi Estate and will be implemented by PR1MA Corporation Malaysia. 

Harmoni Madani PPR Bestari Jaya will consist of 245 single-storey homes under the outright sale category and will include facilities such as kindergartens, nurseries, shops, stalls, a community hall, and children’s playgrounds.

The new homes will be allocated to 245 plantation worker families from five estates: Ladang Mary, Ladang Nigel Gardner, Ladang Bukit Tagar, Ladang Sungai Tinggi Plantation, and Ladang Minyak.

Meanwhile, Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman Pang Sock Tao said the project demonstrates the government’s commitment to the people’s welfare despite being in power for just 26 months.

“The dream of the residents has become a reality thanks to the close cooperation between the KPKT, Selangor government and BCB, which will serve as an example for similar projects in the future,” he said in a statement. — February 17, 2025
