3 of Ismail Sabri’s former aides released on MACC bail

All four arrested last week now released, MACC investigation still ongoing into stash of millions in cash found in a former officer’s home

5:16 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Three former officers linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob have been released on bail today after being remanded since last Friday.

A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) source told Bernama that MACC had completed recording their statements and their remand period concluded today.

“MACC will disclose its findings on this case at a later stage, but for now, the investigation is still ongoing,” the source said.

A fourth ex-officer to the ninth prime minister had also been arrested last week but was released two days ago.

The investigation into Ismail Sabri’s former officers is being conducted under Section 16 (a) of the MACC Act 2009, and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613).

Sources earlier told media that MACC had seized over RM100 million in cash from the home of one of the former officers.

Yesterday, MACC, in a statement, said that it was unable to disclose any findings in this case at this time, including the value of any money or assets seized.

The agency also does not rule out the possibility of calling additional witnesses to assist in the investigation.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told Berita Harian yesterday that this included prominent individuals. – February 25, 2025
