Ismail Sabri’s MACC statement postponed to Mar 13 due to medical leave

Former PM was set to appear at MACC tomorrow over corruption probe linked to his aides

KUALA LUMPUR — The recording of former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s statement, scheduled for tomorrow at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya, has been postponed to March 13.

According to MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, the postponement is due to Ismail Sabri’s health, as he is currently on medical leave.

“He was supposed to be present tomorrow, but he is unable to do so due to his medical leave.

“He will be present on March 13 to have his statement recorded regarding the corruption case,” he said, as reported by Sinar Harian.

Ismail Sabri was supposed to have his statement recorded for the second time yesterday, but it was postponed to Friday.

He had previously given a statement to the MACC on February 19 after officially declaring his assets on February 10.

On March 2, the MACC confirmed that 16 kilograms of pure gold bars worth RM7 million and RM170 million in cash in various currencies were seized by the agency from premises linked to four senior officials of the Bera Member of Parliament.

The investigation into Ismail is also being conducted under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Earlier, Umno stressed that the party has no connection to the discovery of RM170 million in cash and gold bars in the case linked to Ismail Sabri.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party takes seriously any attempt to link Umno to the investigation conducted by the MACC.

“Umno insists that the party has no connection to the discovery and believes that the MACC should be given space to conduct the investigation transparently, freely, and fairly without any interference,” he said. — March 6, 2025
