Doctor rearrested after woman says he made her strip and ‘run-on-the-spot’ as part of treatment

43-year-old suspect was working in a private clinic at the time of the alleged incident in 2023, now with a public hospital

GEORGE TOWN — A doctor here has been re-arrested after a woman accused him of asking her to strip and run on the spot as part of medical treatment two years ago.

He is also suspected of having taken photos of the woman’s body with his mobile phone when she came for a check-up.

Northeast district deputy police chief, Supt Lee Swee Sake said the 43-year-old doctor was arrested at the Northeast district police headquarters (IPD) at 9.15pm last night following a report by the local woman.

The 30-year-old woman accused the doctor at a private clinic in Pulau Tikus of indecent behaviour against her on June 28, 2023.

“The complainant claimed to have met the suspect, who was working as a doctor at the time, in the treatment room and was tricked into taking off her clothes and was told to ‘run on the spot’, supposedly for further treatment,” Lee said in a statement today, reported by Bernama.

The woman lodged a a police report on Tuesday, and initial investigations by the police confirmed the alleged incident on June 28 that year.

The doctor has been remanded for four days from today, until March 10, to assist in investigations under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

The offence under the Penal Code is for sexual harassment and insulting behaviour, which carries a prison sentence of up to five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The offence under the Minor Offences Act carries a maximum fine of RM100.

The doctor, who now reportedly works in the forensic division of a public hospital, was first arrested on Feb 26 regarding the same incident, but was released on police bail on March 2.

The woman’s police report was filed on March 4.

Penang State Health Department (JKNPP) director Datuk Dr Fazilah Shaik Allaudin has it would provide full cooperation to the police regarding the case since the doctor is now working in the public service. – March 7, 2025
