PUTRAJAYA — Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here today to give his statement regarding an investigation into a corruption and money laundering case linked to him.

The vehicle carrying him was seen entering the MACC office compound at 9.46 am.

Ismail Sabri, the country’s ninth Prime Minister, was initially scheduled to give his statement on March 7 but was postponed to today due to his health condition.

On Feb 21, the 65-year-old collapsed at his home and was admitted to a private medical centre, reportedly for blood pressure-related issues.

On March 3, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the Bera MP as a suspect in the investigation into the corruption and money laundering case following the discovery of about RM170 million in various currencies in a safe house.

Also seized were 16 kg of pure gold bars estimated to be worth almost RM7 million.

The MACC has also frozen 13 bank accounts containing over RM2 million to assist in the investigation.

The agency previously arrested and remanded four of Ismail Sabri’s former officers

The focus of the investigation is on the expenditure and acquisition of funds for promotional and publicity purposes under his administration. – March 13, 2025
