SHAH ALAM — The Selangor Government is inviting interested and qualified companies to join the Request for Proposals (RFP) process for the implementation of the Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) Project which is open from today until April 7.

Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporation) or MBI Selangor said in a statement informed that the DRT RFP briefing session will take place tomorrow (March 14) and further information can be obtained through the MBI Selangor website, www.mbiselangor.com.

“The deadline for submission of the RFP is before 12 noon, April 7, 2025,” said MBI Selangor’s statement, reported by Bernama.

It also said existing DRT services are also expected to experience some disruption as incentives for existing operators have been stopped until the official appointment of operators is made during the RFP implementation period.

“The full implementation (of the DRT) is expected to commence in May 2025. Therefore, consumers are requested to check for any service changes or disruptions through the existing DRT service application to manage their travel plans to their desired destinations,” the statement said.

The Selangor government had previously implemented the DRT pilot project from Nov 21, 2023 to July 31, 2024 in eight zones of several local authority (PBT) areas in the state.

“During the period, the use of DRT recorded a total of 73,389 ridership, thus achieving the main target in increasing public awareness of the service. The project is expected to meet the demand of residents and visitors in Selangor in realising more efficient and flexible travel at an affordable price,” the statement said.

The two companies that implemented the DRT pilot project were Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd and Badan Bas Coach Sdn Bhd. Each company was given RM2.16 million by the state to carry out the pilot on a “proof of concept” basis.

DRT refers to a transportation system that adapts routes and schedules based on the specific needs of passengers while also aiming to provide more flexible and efficient transportation options, especially for the connection of the first and last mile of a journey.

On Oct 10, 2023, the Selangor government said it would introduce a DRT system aimed at replacing the Selangor Smart Bus facility in high-density areas and narrow lanes in the future.

According to state Investment, Trade and Mobility Exco Ng Sze Han, the DRT system prioritises passenger transport for the purpose of increasing the use of major public transport such as rail and buses. – March 13, 2025
