PUTRAJAYA — Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is to face the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday again for another day of questioning in the agency’s probe into a corruption and money laundering case.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told Bernama the 65-year-old Bera MP was cooperating with them in the investigation.

“He is cooperating with the recording officers, but I cannot disclose the content of his statement,” Azam said, also confirming that MACC will resume recording Ismail Sabri’s statement on Monday.

“We have postponed it until Monday due to his scheduled programme in Bera, Pahang.”

MACC has named Ismail Sabri as a suspect in the investigation into the expenditure and acquisition of funds for promotional and publicity purposes under his administration.

He spent most of today at the MACC headquarters here, arriving at 8.46 am, leaving around 12.30pm for Friday prayers, and returning at 3.25 pm to continue answering questions.

He left the MACC headquarters at 5.42 pm today.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian reported that MACC would be calling Ismail Sabri over several days as the agency wanted him to verify “hundreds of documents”.

Citing a source, Berita Harian said the documents included his asset declaration submitted on Feb 10, as well procurement and approval records related to his administration.

MACC is also seeking “justification” for the amount of money and other articles seized during its raids.

Ismail Sabri was also summoned yesterday for questioning and was at the agency for five hours.

MACC announced the investigation last month with the arrest and remand of four of the former prime minister’s officers and the discovery of RM170 million in various currencies from a safe house.

Also seized during raids were 6 kg of pure gold bars estimated to be worth almost RM7 million.

The MACC has also frozen 13 bank accounts containing over RM2 million to assist in the investigation.

Ismail Sabri was prime minister from 2021 to 2022 and introduced the “Keluarga Malaysia” concept and brand for his administration. – March 14, 2025
