KUALA LUMPUR – Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail reached out to the underprivileged in her constituency yesterday at a special iftar event at Saidina Othman Ibn Affan Mosque in Cheras here.

The event, jointly organised by Yayasan MRCB and the Bandar Tun Razak Parliamentary Office, brought together 2,500 individuals from low-income backgrounds for a communal breaking of fast.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, arrived at the mosque at about 5.55 pm, accompanied by the Prime Minister’s political secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin.

Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, MRCB chairman Datuk Mohamed Nasir Ab Latif, and Yayasan MRCB chairman Datin Jasmine Abdullah Heng.

As part of the event, Dr Wan Azizah presented financial aid from Yayasan MRCB to 1,100 recipients, including asnaf, orphans, and single mothers, to help ease their financial burden in preparing for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

In her speech, Dr Wan Azizah urged attendees to embrace Ramadan as a time to seek blessings, strengthen bonds, and steer clear of actions that may lead to conflict.

“This sacred month teaches us not just to endure hunger and thirst, but also to seize the opportunity to seek blessings and reflect on our actions.

“Avoid wrongdoing, betrayal, or disputes. Instead, let us practise kindness, uphold compassion, and foster unity. This event itself is a testament to the values of togetherness and care championed by the Prime Minister,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jasmine highlighted that the programme reflects Yayasan MRCB’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

“Ramadan is a time for giving and sharing. At Yayasan MRCB, we are honoured to embody these values by providing essential assistance to those in need, ensuring they can celebrate Aidilfitri with joy and dignity.

“We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to YB Dr Wan Azizah for her presence and continuous commitment to fostering unity and social harmony,” she said.

According to Jasmine, Yayasan MRCB has successfully carried out 118 programmes to date, benefiting over 230,000 individuals from the B40 group through various initiatives, including food aid distribution, educational support, and medical assistance. – March 17, 2025
