Selangor PAS so desperate, they want outsiders to pick state leaders: Ramanan

Sungai Buloh MP says the party seeks to deny Selangor voters their right to choose local reps

KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has criticised Selangor PAS for urging out-of-state voters to change their voting addresses, calling the move irrational and a sign of the party’s waning support in the state.

Ramanan, who is also the Sungai Buloh MP, said the statement by Selangor PAS commissioner and Paya Jaras assemblyman Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri reflected the party’s struggle to secure local support. He alleged that PAS was now relying on external voters from its strongholds in Kelantan and Terengganu to bolster its electoral prospects.

“I find this (suggestion) hilarious (as it shows) that he has run out of ideas and he already knows that they (PAS) could no longer win over all of you here and would have to depend on outsiders.

“He wants the results of parliamentary elections in Selangor to be decided by outsiders,” he said during his speech at the Program Jualan Madani Raya event in conjunction with Aidilfitri at Dewan MPKS Saujana Utama.

The PKR leader also questioned Halim’s commitment to serving constituents, saying such a proposal undermined voters’ rights.

“Are you trying to take away the decision-making rights of the Sungai Buloh voters here? That is what he is trying to do.

“I don’t intend to make a political speech here but I need to inform ladies and gentlemen here: do not let them take your rights.

“You will decide who becomes the leaders here. It is in your hands,” he stressed.

Halim had recently urged registered voters from other states who reside in Selangor to update their voting addresses, expressing confidence that this would strengthen Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) voter base in the state, particularly in Malay-majority and rural areas, local media reported. – March 16, 2025
