KUALA LUMPUR – A TikTok influencer known as Harun Mohd Shah has described the non-Muslim youth who was slapped by an elderly man as a kind-hearted friend who enjoys socialising with Malays.

Harun also revealed that the young man, known as BingBing, is autistic, and the incident deeply saddened him.

He shared how, in the past, BingBing had travelled by bus from Johor Bahru to Kajang just to pay his respects to a friend who had passed away.

“I remember when he saw the deceased’s face, he kissed his forehead and asked me why he felt sad.

“I told him, ‘He was your friend, of course you would feel sad,’” Harun said, adding that he was touched by BingBing’s willingness to wait until the funeral rites were completed.

Harun also said that BingBing had accompanied the funeral procession to the mosque and followed it all the way to the burial site.

“He is a special needs individual who doesn’t fully understand things, but because his friend passed away, he was willing to come to Kajang and stay until the burial was done,” he said on TikTok.

Yesterday, a non-Muslim youth lodged a police report after being slapped by an elderly man while eating at Angsana Mall, Johor Bahru.

The victim, identified as Elijah, filed the report at the Tampoi Police Station, and the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The incident has also caught the attention of National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, who condemned the act as a provocation that does not reflect the spirit of national unity and harmony.

Meanwhile, netizens have expressed their support for the victim and hope that he receives justice in the case.

Many also criticised the elderly man, arguing that as someone of advanced age, he should know proper etiquette and set a good example. – March 18, 2025
