Current KL Tower operators claim midnight eviction, call for press conference

This comes amid a suit against the granting of a 20-year concession to a new operator

KUALA LUMPUR – The conflict surrounding the operations of KL Tower is intensifying as the current operators are claiming they are compelled to leave the site at midnight tonight.

Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd and Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd have scheduled a press conference for 11pm at the main entrance of KL Tower.

According to the media invitation, they claimed that police and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will forcibly evict them at midnight.

The two companies argue that the eviction is unlawful as they currently have a pending suit regarding the granting of a 20-year concession to manage the tower to Lim Seong Hai Capital Bhd (LSH Capital).

Just last week, LSH Capital’s subsidiary, LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd, finalised a lease agreement with the federal lands commissioner.

This agreement, which will take effect from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2045, gives LSH Capital rights to approximately 4 hectares (10 acres) of land, which includes the KL Tower site, Tower Terrace and surrounding areas.

Hydroshoppe and Menara Kuala Lumpur are challenging the concession award in court, seeking RM20.13 million in losses and damages, as well as the transfer of the concession to themselves.

They assert that there was a prior “understanding” regarding the tower’s management, claiming that LSH Capital caused a “breach of a contract” they had with Putrajaya in August 2022.

LSH Capital, on the other hand, said it was unaware of any previous agreements or discussions between the government and the two companies. They also indicated their intention to defend against the suit and uphold their commitments under the 20-year agreement. – March 31, 2025
