KUALA LUMPUR — Petronas Gas Bhd has confirmed that the fire in Putra Heights occurred at its main pipeline at 8.10 am today.
Bernama reported the company’s statement as firefighters from nine stations evacuate residents and battle the inferno at the housing enclave in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
Petronas Gas said the affected pipeline has been isolated, and all relevant stakeholders have been informed.
“We are currently working closely with the local authorities to manage the situation, and we will provide additional information in due course as the investigation is still being carried out,” it said.
In a separate statement, Petronas also said that the surrounding three retail stations – PS Putra Heights, PS KM2 LDP and PS Putra Bestari, are not affected, but have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.
“Customers may use the following alternatives for their refuelling needs – PS USJ 20, USJ 6 and USJ 9,” it said.
As at 10.35 am, 25 people were receiving initial treatment for fire-related injuries at a nearby temple, according to Bernama.
Health Ministry personnel were speedily deployed to attend to their injuries, which include wounds, burns and breathing difficulties.
The victims will be transferred to the Serdang Hospital for further treatment.
Earlier, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the fire was called in at 8.23 am.
He also confirmed that the blaze was caused by a burst gas pipeline, with an estimated length of 500 metres, near a housing area.
He added that several houses were also damaged in the fire.
Separately, the Selangor government has opened a temporary relief shelter at the Putra Heights mosque for fire victims. – April 1, 2025
