KUALA LUMPUR — Mara Junior Science College’s (MRSM) disciplinary committee has recommended the expulsion of seven students involved in a bullying case last year, Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said.

“Two were involved in physical bullying, five others were accomplices. Their expulsion from MRSM is recommended,” he said.

He posted the disciplinary committee’s decision on Facebook today, adding in a comment in response to a user that he did not believe in giving the students a second chance.

“I’m sorry, I don’t agree with giving them a second chance because since I was entrusted to be Mara chairman, I have repeatedly reminded and stressed the principle of #YouTouchYouGo.

“There is no comprise and no place for bullies and any form of bullying culture at any education institution under Mara, including MRSM.

“It does not matter whose child is involved, whether Tan Sri, Datuk, any child of influential people, if caught involved in bullying, will face stern and firm action.

“Don’t bother trying to meet me to appeal. My office will not entertain anyone who violates such humanitarian principles,” he said in a comment to his post.

Yesterday, police confirmed a bullying incident that occurred in the middle of last year at the MRSM in Seberang Perai Selatan.

It involved a 15-year-old victim who was recorded on video being bullied by seven students. The video showed a group of male students piling on the head and body of another student, who was lying face down on a bed, and whipping him on the buttocks with a belt.

Seberang Perai Selatan Deputy Police Chief, Mohd Norazmi Abd Ghapar said an investigation was launched based on the video, even though no police report was lodged.

He said the seven students involved have been identified and they were apparently joking and teasing each other.

Nevertheless, police are now investigating the incident under Section 323 of the Penal Code, on voluntarily causing hurt. – April 8, 2025
