KLIA improves seven spots to be world’s 65th best airport in Skytrax rankings

Placement this year is just two ranks better than its position in the 2023 survey, at 67th

KUALA LUMPUR — Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) climbed six places to be the world’s 65th best airport in the annual rankings by Skytrax for 2025.

KLIA was 71st in the rankings for 2024 by the international air transport rating organisation, which uses traveller surveys.

Its placement in the World’s Top 100 Airports 2025 rankings, released yesterday, is just two spots higher that its 2023 ranking, at 67th.

The 27-year-old airport has been beset by travellers’ complaints about long queues and delays in baggage handling, and notably,  the breakdown of its Aerotrain service in March 2023. The Aerotrain’s overhaul is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of this year.

For the 2025 ranking, Singapore’s Changi Airport came out tops, swapping places with Qatar’s Doha Hamad which was first last year but came in second this year.

Changi Airport also received awards for having the world’s best airport dining, world’s best airport washrooms, and best airport in Asia.

In third place was Japan’s Haneda Airport, followed by South Korea’s Incheon Airport (4th), and Japan’s Narita Airport (5th).

KLIA came ahead of international airports in Barcelona, Budapest Adelaide, Hamburg and Atlanta.

Skytrax said its survey for the 2025 rankings was conducted from August last year to February this year, with over 100 customer nationalities who participated.

Customers are asked about a wide range of airport  and airport-related experiences and services, including its website, getting to and fro the airport, WiFi speed and even the attitude of immigration staff. – April 10, 2025
