KUALA LUMPUR – SK Bidor 2 has been chosen as the inaugural site for the Safe Internet Campaign organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
This programme is set to be implemented in all primary and secondary schools across Malaysia by the end of the year.
Coordinated by the Communications Ministry, the campaign focuses on several key points. These include age limits for social media usage, a ban on children under 13 having social media accounts, and the dangers of cyberbullying, sexual exploitation, and hate speech.
The campaign also emphasises the importance of parental involvement in safeguarding their children.
Mohd Azlan Helmi, the chairman of the Perak Communications, Multimedia and NGO Committee, said that the campaign is aimed at schoolchildren, who are seen as a high-risk group susceptible to being influenced by irresponsible individuals.
“Previously, similar programmes mainly targeted secondary school students, but this time, we are focusing on children under the age of 13.
“This is because there is an increasing trend of deception, bullying, and so on. Through this campaign, we aim to educate and raise awareness to help protect them from cyber threats,” he said after launching the campaign at the school here today.
In the meantime, Mohd Azlan mentioned that a comprehensive report regarding internet access problems in various areas, including the Ayer Kuning state constituency, will be presented at the state assembly meeting scheduled for April 15 to 22.
He explained that all the information related to this issue was gathered through surveys and visits carried out by the MCMC in the impacted areas, and the relevant parties are currently preparing the most recent report on the situation. – April 10, 2025
