KUALA LUMPUR – PKR’s branch-level elections have seen notable victories for prominent figures and vice-presidential candidates such as Datuk Seri R Ramanan and Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan, while Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun is also drawing attention as he defends his post.
Ramanan, who is also the Deputy Chief of Information for PKR, was re-elected unopposed as the head of the Sungai Buloh branch, which has 4,604 eligible voters.
Meanwhile, Dr Sathia, who serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of PKR, won the Hulu Selangor branch with 3,016 votes in a three-cornered contest.
He defeated former Hulu Selangor branch chief, June Leow Hsiad Hui, who received 993 votes, and J Kalaichelvan, who garnered 609 votes.
The PKR 2025 election website reported that 5,538 members in Hulu Selangor were eligible to vote, with 4,618 ballots cast. In Selangor, 22 branches were involved in the election yesterday, including Sungai Buloh, Petaling Jaya, Ampang, and Shah Alam, with a total of 92,619 voters.
Meanwhile, in Perak, state chairman Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri highlighted the victory of Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, who was elected unopposed as the Tanjung Malim Division chief. Other division leaders in Perak include Tan Kar Hing (Gopeng), A. Alphonse (Bagan Serai), S. Tamilselvan (Batu Gajah), Baldip Singh (Kampar), and Mohamad Hairul Amir in Kuala Kangsar. Voting continues for positions other than division chiefs in six divisions.
Amirudin, a key figure in Negeri Sembilan and PKR vice-president, is currently in the race to defend his position as the Port Dickson Division chief against Datuk M. Ravi. In Negeri Sembilan, 14,042 voters across eight divisions, including Seremban, Jelebu, and Rasah, are casting their votes.
A total of 500 voters are participating in person at three polling stations, with 13,542 voting online.
Mohamad Hairul Amir shared that 25,466 PKR members in Perak were eligible to vote, with 25,002 casting their votes online and 464 voting in person at 24 divisions statewide. Over 98 percent of voters opted for online ballots.
Voting for the PKR elections is taking place across multiple states, with online and physical voting running concurrently from April 11 to 20. The elections in Selangor, Melaka, and Perlis took place on April 12, while those in Kedah, Sarawak, and other states will continue over the coming days. – April 13, 2025
