KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has directed telecommunications providers to swiftly address connectivity issues at 27 locations within the Ayer Kuning state constituency.
In a statement today, MCMC said the move was made following a directive from Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who had flagged concerns over the area’s poor internet and mobile coverage.
Fahmi made a visit to the Ayer Kuning National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) yesterday as part of a programme.
Under MCMC’s instruction, telcos have begun implementing a series of proactive steps to enhance service quality, particularly in areas critical to the upcoming Ayer Kuning by-election.
Key priority locations include the nomination centre at Dewan Merdeka Tapah, 21 polling stations throughout the constituency, the media centre at the Batang Padang District Information Office, and both the Ayer Kuning and Sri Bidor PPR National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI).
“As of 6pm yesterday, all service providers – namely CelcomDigi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia, U Mobile and YTL – have submitted revised and improved action plans to MCMC,” the statement said.
“Initiatives include the optimisation of existing transmitter stations, installation of temporary transmitters, and infrastructure sharing among service providers.”
To facilitate public complaints, MCMC has also set up a dedicated counter at the Batang Padang PPD in Tapah. It will operate daily from 9am to 9pm between April 12 and 26, handling issues related to telecommunications, postal services and other commission-related matters.
“MCMC will continue to monitor network performance daily and escalate any new complaints to the relevant service providers for immediate resolution.
“Any delays or failure to comply with these directives will result in enforcement action in accordance with existing laws,” the commission warned. – April 14, 2025
