KUALA LUMPUR – Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed hope that his state visit to Malaysia will further strengthen the friendship between the two nations, ushering in another “50 golden years” of China–Malaysia relations.

In a written statement issued upon his arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport today, at the start of his three-day state visit, Xi said he was confident that with the joint efforts of both countries, the visit would be a productive one.

“With this visit, I hope to further deepen our traditional friendship, enhance political trust, advance cooperation in modernisation, promote mutual learning between civilisations, and reach new heights in developing the China–Malaysia community with a shared future.

“I am confident that, with our joint efforts, this will be a fruitful visit. Together, we will open a new chapter in the annals of our good neighbourly ties and mutually beneficial cooperation, and embark on another ‘50 golden years’ in China–Malaysia relations,” he said in the statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

Xi also expressed his pleasure at returning to Malaysia at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia.

“Twelve years ago, I made my first state visit to Malaysia and left with deep and fond memories.

“Returning today fills me with warmth. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I extend sincere greetings and best wishes to the government and people of Malaysia.”

The Chinese president added that China and Malaysia, which established diplomatic ties over half a century ago, have set a strong example of state-to-state relations, characterised by mutual respect, trust, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

“During my visit, I will engage in in-depth discussions with King Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on bilateral relations, as well as international and regional issues of shared concern,” he said.

In 2023, both countries reached an important consensus on building a China–Malaysia community with a shared future. The same year also marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

“Both China and Malaysia are major developing countries and members of the Global South.

“Deepening our high-level strategic cooperation serves the common interests of both countries and contributes to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world,” Xi added. — April 15, 2025
