KUALA LUMPUR – Pos Malaysia has issued a public apology after a comment made by its group chief executive officer, Charles Brewer, in response to a postman’s plea for a new uniform triggered a wave of criticism on social media.
In a statement today, the national postal service said it had taken immediate steps to address the internal matter, which occurred on March 19 and involved a damaged uniform.
“We acknowledge the recent social media posts referencing an internal matter on 19 March 2025 involving a damaged uniform.
“Immediate actions were taken to engage directly with the employee concerned, and the matter has been fully resolved,” the company said.
Brewer has since apologised to the employee involved and to “anyone who may have been affected or offended” by his comment, in which he reportedly responded to a torn-uniform query with, “Count yourself lucky that you don’t work for one of the foreign carriers who don’t provide uniforms at all.”
The remark, which circulated widely online, was perceived as dismissive, especially given that uniforms are a standard operational requirement for public-facing roles like postal workers.
Social media users criticised the tone and questioned how basic necessities such as proper work attire could be an issue, particularly for a company with financial losses but high executive pay.
Brewer acknowledged that he “should have responded with greater empathy” and said he is committed to fostering a “respectful and supportive environment for all Pos Wiras” — the company’s term for its frontline staff.
Pos Malaysia added that it would be enhancing internal procedures to ensure uniforms are replaced more promptly in the future.
“In addition, we will be improving our internal processes to ensure that uniform replacements are done in a more timely and efficient manner to support our Pos Wiras in delivering on our service commitments to the community,” the company said. – April 19, 2025
