KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will call in former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob again this Thursday to continue recording his statement regarding a previous asset declaration.
MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said the declaration was made under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
“Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri is being recalled to the MACC to continue his statement, this time concerning the asset declaration made under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009,” he said during a press conference after the 11th Convocation Ceremony of the Certified Integrity Officer (CeIO) Programme held here today.
Ismail Sabri was instructed to make the declaration under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009 on December 11, 2024, and officially submitted it on February 10 this year.
On March 3, MACC confirmed it had seized 16kg of pure gold bullion worth RM7 million and RM170 million in cash in various currencies from premises linked to four senior officers of the Bera MP.
The investigation into Ismail is being carried out under the MACC Act 2009 as well as the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
He has previously been called in several times to have his statement recorded in connection with corruption and money laundering investigations.
To date, statements from 33 individuals have been recorded to assist in the investigation. – April 22, 2025
