KUALA LUMPUR – PKR vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has confirmed that he has submitted an appeal letter to the Central Election Committee following the outcome of the Setiawangsa division chief contest.
He said another meeting of the Central Leadership Council (MPP) will be held today, during which the outcome of the 2025 PKR division-level elections is expected to be discussed.
“We’ve submitted the letter and now we’re waiting for a response. There’s an MPP meeting today, so we’ll wait and see,” he told reporters after visiting the Wildlife Conservation Centre (PHKL) in conjunction with World Tapir Day celebrations earlier today.
Nik Nazmi, who is also the natural resources and environmental sustainability minister, remained upbeat despite the political turbulence surrounding the party polls.
“Always optimistic,” he said briefly.
Yesterday, PKR’s Election Committee Chairperson, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, said the status of the objections received from various PKR branches will be announced next week.
Nik Nazmi was defeated by well-known director and actor Datuk Afdlin Shauki in his bid to defend the Setiawangsa PKR dvision chief position on April 19.
He secured 563 votes compared to Afdlin’s 631.
The elections also saw the defeat of several senior party leaders, including deputy ministers and MPs.
Among them were Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim (Hang Tuah Jaya), Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (Johor Bahru), Batu MP P. Prabakaran, and Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan. – April 26, 2025.
