KUALA LUMPUR – Caretaker deputy chief minister II P. Ramasamy appears to be dissatisfied with the reasons behind DAP’s move to drop him from the candidates’ list for the upcoming state election in Penang. 

Speaking to Scoop, Ramasamy described the move as a “convenient” decision by the party and did not discount the possibility that there were other motives involved.

“It is a convenient thing to say that you want to remove leaders who have served more than three terms,” he said.

“Yes, I am in my early 70s, but replacing me – which is fine – (are you implying that) people my age cannot perform?” 

Elaborating, the 74-year-old Prai incumbent said he had hoped to serve one more term in his state constituency, but ultimately surrendered to the decisions made by DAP.

However, he said he was not at all “disappointed” at the party’s latest call, but wished to have known the reasons other than the “platitudes” that were given.

Ramasamy has served the Prai state constituency since 2008.

Earlier today, various news outlets reported that Ramasamy might have been dropped from DAP’s list of candidates for the upcoming state elections, set for August 12.

Other veterans whose names were not included in the list include Wanita DAP head Chong Eng, Phee Boon Poh Yeoh Soon Hin, and Soon Lip Chee. – July 25, 2023
