Focus on winning elections, stop bickering over Salahuddin’s replacement: Mat Sabu

The Agriculture and Food Security minister said Amanah’s leadership and all of its members should instead focus on running its election machinery in six states.

KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has called on party members to quit speculating on who will replace the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub following the latter’s passing on Sunday.

In a statement, today, the Agriculture and Food Security minister said Amanah’s leadership and all of its members should instead focus on running its election machinery in six states.

“Let’s not think about who will replace the late Salahuddin. After (the election), we will discuss with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding the replacement.

“In the meantime, do not allow ourselves to be incited by others over this issue,” he said.

Mohamad also assured party members that Amanah’s leadership will handle matters such as the change in leadership and the party’s future as per the norms and practices of the party itself.

“I have personally given my commitment to focus on my responsibility at the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry as well as going down to the ground with party members to run the election machinery.

“We have an important responsibility to ensure victory to all candidates from parties under the unity government namely Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Salahuddin, 61, passed away at the Sultanah Bahiyah hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar on Sunday night after undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

Prior to his death, he was serving as Pulai MP, Simpang Jeram assemblyman and Amanah deputy president. – July 26, 2023
