Normalisation of corruption, says Syed Saddiq as Muda chief hits out at Zahid

He criticises BN chairman over the T'ganu youth aid announcement

1:02 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has taken a swipe at Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi after the deputy prime minister’s aid announcement for Terengganu youth.

Syed Saddiq shared a video of one of Zahid’s announcements on Twitter, saying, “Nothing to see here. Just the normalisation of corruption.”

Zahid could be heard saying that he approved hundreds of thousands in aid and that the crowd should remember to vote for his party come August 12, which is the polling day for six states.

Among the goodies he announced yesterday were the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, through which the Central Terengganu Development Authority (Ketengah) agreed to an additional grant of RM100,000 for its youth association.

He also announced an allocation of RM250,000 for the Terengganu Malaysia Youth Council and RM200,000 for the motoring association in the state.

However, Twitter users questioned Syed Saddiq’s motives in highlighting the video, with some saying that the government has been accused of either being slow with aid or announcing it prior to the state election campaign period.

Some users also accused Syed Saddiq of creating fodder for the opposition bloc Perikatan Nasional to capitalise on, even though Muda is seen as part of the federal unity government.

Muda is fielding nearly two dozen candidates in the six state polls

The Election Commission has set August 12 as the polling date for the state elections in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Penang, as well as the Kuala Terengganu by-election, with early voting on August 8. – July 29, 2023
