KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor caretaker state government has cancelled the implementation of the proposed Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link).

In a statement today, caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said they have made the decision after evaluating the results of the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment, Social Impact Assessment (SIA), and Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA).

“The Selangor state government does not wish to continue with this proposal and decided to cancel the application of construction of the PJD Link,” he said.

“Hence, the state government does not wish to continue with this proposal and decided to cancel the application of construction of the PJD-Link.”

The project was first proposed and principally approved by the federal cabinet on November 12, 2017, and then handed to the Selangor State Economic Council on September 3, 2020 for further research to be conducted.

It was presented to the federal cabinet again on November 12, 2021 through the Cabinet Memorandum for conditional approval so that the proposed project would meet all requirements set by the Selangor government.

On April 5, 2022, the federal government and a developer signed a concession agreement with the condition that the company would conduct research and provide full reports on EIA, SIA, and TIA before the agreement would come into effect.

However, Amirudin said Selangor’s development must achieve a balance between sustainability, economic development, and impact on the people of Selangor. – July 31, 2023
