Thousands track Taylor Swift’s flight as pop star flaps wings over in Singapore

Superstar singer-songwriter set for six shows in city state starting this Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR – Music superstar Taylor Swift arrived in Singapore yesterday, her flight from Sydney tracked by more than 6,000 people on a live tracking app.

Her touchdown in a chartered jet at Seletar Airport at 5.05pm was witnessed by a handful of fans amid tight security, with more interest on the flight path for her eight-hour journey after concluding the Australian leg of her The Eras Tour.

Swift will perform for six nights in Singapore with the first show scheduled this Saturday.

Singapore has secured Swift exclusively for the Southeast Asian region by subsidising her concerts in the island state in the form of a grant.

The move was made as the concerts are expected to “generate significant benefits for the economy here”, The Straits Times had reported Singapore’s Tourism Board and Culture, Community and Youth Ministry as saying.

Swift is to perform on March 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 in Singapore.

The Love Story singer has developed a reputation for driving economic spillovers from her concerts with a phenomenon known as “Swiftonomics”, which is estimated to have generated US$8.5 billion (some RM40.63 billion) for the US economy in the third quarter of last year, according to Bloomberg Economics. – February 28, 2024
