Singer disregards requests from Jewish Voice for Peace to cancel concert in Tel Aviv as stance against abuses against Palestinians

6:36 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – World-famous American pop star Bruno Mars is not welcome in Malaysia for a concert scheduled for September 17 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium due to allegations of his support for the Israeli regime.

In a statement today, Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia condemned the American singer and songwriter for holding a concert in Tel Aviv, Israel, last October and ignoring the ongoing genocide by the Zionist regime in Gaza.

It said that the artist had disregarded requests from Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), a Palestinian solidarity movement, to cancel the event as a stance against human rights abuses against Palestinians.

“He ignored requests by JVP to not perform in Israel as a show of protest against the treatment of Palestinians there.

“Instead, in his concert in Tel Aviv, he declared his undying love for the country that he ‘knows’ is brutalising millions of his fellow human beings simply because they are of a different ethnicity or religion,” it said.

BDS also said that almost 38,000 innocent Palestinians, including about 15,000 children and 10,000 women, have been killed, yet Bruno Mars has not spoken out about the dehumanising activities there.

“He either does not care about the genocide or he fully supports it.

“We call on Bruno Mars, if he truly believes in the things he sings about, to be on the right side of humanity and international law and immediately condemn the ongoing genocide now taking place in Gaza,” the statement added, noting that this boycott will show him that ‘genocide-loving Zionists’ are not welcome in Malaysia.

Last Wednesday, BDS urged the government to cancel the artist’s upcoming concert.

The concert organiser Live Nation Malaysia has also disabled the comment section of its Instagram post announcing Bruno Mars’ upcoming show in Kuala Lumpur.

This comes after a surge of complaints from netizens accusing the pop star of being pro-Zionist and calling for a boycott of his concert here. – June 28, 2024

Why is there a monopoly of rice in Malaysia ? — Remy Majangkim

Before the formation of Malaysia, rice was basically state affairs, but as times went on, the rice industry in Malaysia was hijacked by the federal government as it saw fit and included in a federal act that ultimately disbanded the Sabah Padi Board, paving the way for a capitalist corporation to have a complete monopoly.
