KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the National Athlete Welfare Foundation (Yakeb) will be extending assistance to the late B. Satiananthan’s family in the form of aid and contributions as appreciation for his services and sacrifices in the national football arena.

In a statement today, Yakeb chairman Datuk Noorul Ariffin Abdul Majeed said the assistance is being done through a collaboration with FAM in ensuring that the welfare of former national football players is always given full attention.

“FAM is the first sports association to invite Yakeb to establish cooperation.

“To ensure that various forms of assistance or donations can be channelled to these former athletes, we also welcome former football players who have represented the country in the SEA Games, Asian Games and Olympic Games to register as Yakeb members.

“Currently, we have a total of 2,998 members who have registered as members – of which 340 are former football players, including 43 former female players.

“We are targeting a total of 500 to 600 former footballers to register as members,” said Noorul Ariffin during his meeting with FAM secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman at Wisma FAM today.

Satiananthan, who served as national head coach, passed away on July 18 after almost a year-long battle with cancer. He was 65.

During the visit, the widow of the late Satiananthan, Krishna Priya, was also in attendance.

Yakeb has so far provided assistance and donations to 60 former football players through the Yakeb Special Assistance Scheme. – September 14, 2023
