Mick Schumacher could leave F1 at end of season

Alpine management says Schumacher has good chances to move into the squad as one of the regular drivers

LEIPZIG — Mick Schumacher could leave Formula One at the end of the 2023 season, German news agency (dpa) quoted the Motorsport magazine report.

According to the report, the son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is to join the Alpine sports cars programme that competes in the traditional 24 hours of Le Mans.

The magazine said that the Alpine management has already contacted Schumacher and his management, and the driver is said to have good chances to move into the squad as one of the regular drivers.

There was no confirmation from Schumacher or his management team for now.

However, it is clear that his chances of getting a permanent position on the F1 grid are very low and most seats for next year have already been taken.

Schumacher is currently a reserve driver at Mercedes after his contract with Haas was not extended following two seasons with the US team.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are Mercedes starting line-up and just recently both drivers had their contracts extended. — September 15, 2023
