Hong Kong Open: Pearly-Thinaah book slot into second final of the year

The pair had previously lost at the final of the Malaysia Masters in May

KUALA LUMPUR – National women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah marched forward to the finals of the Hong Kong Open today.

The world number 10 pair defeated world number 11 pair Benyapa Aimsaard-Nuntakarn Aimsaard from Thailand in straight sets 21-13, 21-18, in 36 minutes at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon.

Yesterday, Pearly and Thinaah defeated another Thai pair Jongkolphan Kititharakul-Rawinda Prajongjai 15-21, 21-14, 21-19.

They will face either Danish pair Maiken Fruergaard-Sara Thygesen or tournament seventh seeds Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti from Indonesia in the final tomorrow.

This will be their second final appearance of the year after losing at the Malaysia Masters to South Korean pair Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee in May.

Meanwhile, in the women’s singles, Goh Jin Wei’s run at the tournament came to an end.

The former double junior world champion was sent packing by Zhang Yiman from China.

This is Jin Wei’s first semifinal of the year and she went down in straight sets 21-14, 21-11 to the world number 17. – September 16, 2023
