SIC gears up for thrilling showdown in Malaysia Championship Series finale

High-stakes racing, emotional triumphs, and prestigious GT showdown highlight the season’s culminating action

9:39 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — In a crescendo of roaring engines and high-speed drama, the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is set for a showdown tomorrow till Sunday as the Malaysia Championship Series (MCS) write the final chapter for the season.

The 2023 Championship remains up for grabs, with four teams vying for first place in every category.

SIC chief executive officer, Azhan Shafriman Hanif, said that he anticipates a competitive battle among the racers and commended the racers involved in making the series a success.

“(SIC) expected plenty of amazing stories both on and off the track.

“Truthfully, the hard-fought victories and the top-notch motor racing we’ve witnessed in the past three races of the season have exceeded our expectations.

“The best is yet to come as we approach the final round,” said Azhan.

The previous Round 3 race, held on August 27, saw Bangladesh’s racing sensation, Avik Anwar of team R Engineering, secure the coveted P1 position in Race 2 of the T-Production class.

Avik dedicated this emotional victory to his late father, Md Anwar Hossain, who tragically passed away just weeks before the race, adding a profound layer of meaning to the competition.

The MCS, which originated from the Malaysian Super Series (MSS) introduced in 2002, is a national racing series promoted and organized by SIC.

It serves as a pioneering initiative to stimulate and cultivate four-wheel motorsports in Malaysia.

Featuring various categories, including T-Production (Touring), M-Production (Modified), S-Production 1 (SP1), and S-Production 2 (SP2), the series continues to attract the crème de la crème of Malaysia’s racing talent.

Beyond the MCS excitement, the Sepang circuit is primed to host Asia’s premier GT championship, the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS.

This prestigious six-round series concludes at Sepang, where four drivers are on the precipice of clinching the overall title.

Among them stands Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim, a two-time race winner hailing from the Johor Royal Family, and his brother, Prince Jefri Ibrahim, who competes for Triple Eight JMR (Johor Motorsports Racing). — September 21, 2023
