Kick off with Astro: AFC Champions League, AFC Cup matches hit Malaysian screens

Fans can start enjoying live and delayed games from Sept 18 to May 25, 2024

KUALA LUMPUR – Football enthusiasts across Malaysia are in for a treat as Astro, the leading satellite television provider in the country, has unveiled its plans to broadcast the highly anticipated AFC Champions League (ACL) and AFC Cup (ACC) matches through their exclusive Astro Sports Pack.

The action-packed journey began on September 18 and is set to captivate fans until May 25, 2024.

Astro Sports Pack subscribers can revel in a total of 60 live and delayed matches from the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup, promising an exhilarating football spectacle.

The excitement of the live matches is further enhanced by the participation of Malaysia Super League teams in the AFC competitions.

Defending Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), will be representing Malaysia in the ACL while Sabah FC and Terengganu FC are set to showcase their prowess in the AFC Cup’s 23/24 season.

The matches will be available for viewing on Arena Bola channels (Channel 803 and Channel 804) as well as Astro SuperSport channels (Channel 812 and Channel 813).

To make the viewing experience even more exciting, Astro has enlisted iconic football commentators such as Zainal Abidin Rawop, Hafizal Hamad, Izwan Mohd Noor, Aiman “Sekaiichi”, and Wan Khairil Azwa.

These renowned voices of football will provide engaging commentary to keep viewers at home on the edge of their seats.

Astro Arena is also set to offer in-depth coverage of the AFC tournaments, with a team of accomplished hosts and pundits.

Prominent football hosts, Ahmed Shahrazad Sani, Nafis Abdullah who is also known as “Botak”, Keesh who is also known as “Mat Stats”, and Faiz Gurun will engage fans with insightful and tactical discussions.

They will also be joined by former national players Safee Sali, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Nizaruddin Yusof, Razman Roslan, and Shahrom Kalam.

For those who are unable to catch the live action, Astro Arena channels (Channel 801 and Channel 802) will broadcast delayed matches featuring Saudi Arabian Pro League teams such as Al Hilal SFC, Al Nassr, and Al Ittihad.

Last year’s ACL edition saw Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds clinching their third ACL title after defeating Saudi Arabia-based Al Hilal SFC 2-1 on aggregate.

Oman’s Al-Seeb FC won the 2022 AFC Cup after defeating Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur City FC 3-0 in the final held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

JDT remains the club in Malaysia to emerge victorious in an AFC club competition as they won the AFC Cup in 2015. – September 22, 2023
