KUALA LUMPUR – The triumph of Malaysia’s e-sports team in advancing to the finals at the Asian Games in Hangzhou is not just a source of pride for the nation, it has also garnered significant attention from sports enthusiasts in China.

In a tweet shared by an Astro Arena journalist, fans gathered around the national e-sports players, seeking their autographs after they made history by securing a spot in the finals.

This historic achievement comes as e-sports makes its debut as a medal event at the Asian Games.

The Malaysian national team secured their place in the Arena of Valor finals by defeating Vietnam 2-0 in the semi-finals, held at the China Hangzhou ESports Centre today.

The victorious Malaysian squad, composed of Lai Chia Chien, Nicholas Ng Khai Shuan, Ong Jun Yang, Eng Jun Hao, Yong Zhan Quan, and Chong Han Hui, triumphed over their Vietnamese counterparts, including Nguyen Thi Phuong Yen, Nguyen Sy Tuan Linh, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Nguyen Duc Viet, Dang Huynh Truong, and Huynh Phuong Ngan.

The final showdown, scheduled for tomorrow, will see Malaysia face off against China who defeated Thailand. – September 25, 2023
