KUALA LUMPUR – Simon Carr from Britain emerged as the General Classification winner of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) after the completion of the final stage today.

Carr, who rides for EF Education-EasyPost, took possession of the green jersey in Stage 5, from Slim River to Genting Highlands, on Wednesday.

It was a tough race for Carr who shared that his grandfather Tony passed away last week.

“(Winning the green jersey) was a big goal, I hope for my family watching it makes them happier and it’s a big milestone for me as well.

“He would have been really happy, he would’ve been following all the way so…yeah I’m happy to have been able to do this for him,” said Carr.

He said that he knew there was a possibility he could win the General Classification after the third stage.

“I was in the breakaway and felt really good.

“Obviously, winning Genting Highlands was the most important day in terms of securing the GC.

“But it’s not really over until it’s over. So today, I had to count on all of my teammates to come away with the win,” he added.

Carr recorded an overall time of 29h 17m and 41s. His teammate Jefferson Cepeda Ortiz was 49s behind him.

Pablo Castrillo of Equipo Kern Pharma finished this year’s LTdL in third.

Carr became the first rider from Britain to win the ProSeries road cycling race since its inception in 1996.

EF Education-EasyPost – the American-based WorldTour Team – was also crowned the Team General Classification winner.

Arvid de Kleijn of Tudor Pro Cycling Team, a two-time stage winner, is crowned the orange jersey winner for the Best Sprinter Classification.

The polkadot jersey for the King of Mountain classification goes to Simon Pellaud also from Tudor.

Vadim Pronskiy of Astana Qazaqstan secured the white jersey for Best Asian Rider.

Stage 8 today covered a distance of 156.5km from Setia Alam to Kuala Lumpur.

Russian Gleb Syritsa of Astana Qazaqstan recorded his second stage win today after previously winning Stage 2.

Czech Daniel Babor of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA was second and Dutchman Arvid de Kleijn of Tudor Pro Cycling Team rounded up the podium. – September 30, 2023
