Sports minister says this after congratulating Lee Zii Jia for Arctic Open win

5:01 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh today called on Malaysian badminton players to buck up and be more consistent in upcoming tournaments.

She was asked about Lee Zii Jia’s win in the men’s singles at the Arctic Open last week.

“I want to congratulate Zii Jia for winning a title after so long.

“I also want to congratulate his coach, Wong Tat Meng. I believe he has done well in helping Zii Jia get back to top form,” she said in a press conference at the National Sports Institute.

“What I need from our badminton players is consistency. I know they have the talent and they have proved it too by winning at the world level.

“I just want them to be consistent,” she said.

Earlier, Hannah launched a women’s health clinic at the NSI to help female athletes with health problems specific to them.

The clinic will be open every Wednesday from 9am until 1pm and will be operated by Dr Jerilee Azhary, who is an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist appointed by NSI from Universiti Malaya’s medical faculty.

In addition, NSI has also appointed Dr Wan Nadiah Zainab Wan Azman on a permanent basis to treat female national athletes.

Among the services provided are consultations, women’s health check-ups, referrals and women’s health education sessions. – October 17, 2023
