Cycling: Terengganu Polygon doesn’t want Aiman Rosli’s talents ‘to go to waste’

He becomes second cyclist from outside Terengganu to join the team

KUALA LUMPUR – The Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team’s (TSG) decision to sign Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli was driven by the recognition of his exceptional talent.

The UCI Continental team’s chief operating officer Nasiruddin Wan Idrus announced this today after Muar-born Aiman shared the news of his signing with TSG for the coming 2024 season on his Instagram.

“Aiman approached me (with his interest) to join the team in July, and not long after he sent in his official application and resume.

“The application was raised at a committee meeting, which convened on August 20. After the meeting, the committee agreed to offer him a contract,” said Nasiruddin.

He added that Aiman, who wore the white jersey for the Best Asian Rider classification after completing Stage 3 of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) last month, has signed a one-year contract effective January 1 next year.

“We decided to sign Aiman because we did not want his talent to go to waste without proper guidance.

“So we agreed to offer him an opportunity to ride for us and hope that he gives his 100% effort when representing TSG next year and when representing the country at any upcoming Games,” said Nasiruddin.

He added that initially, the setting up of TSG was to give priority to cyclists from Terengganu – but there has been a policy shift this year, opening up slots for talents outside of the East Coast state.

“We don’t only feel we have a responsibility towards the team but also to our country.

“That is why we made a change in policy in opening up slots for talents outside Terengganu to join the team.

“The first was Muhammad Shahmir Aiman Abdul Halim who is from Melaka, so that would make Aiman the second rider from outside Terengganu to join us,” he said.

Aiman showed his prowess at LTdL by helping the national team finish as the fifth-best Asian Team. – October 22, 2023
