KUALA LUMPUR – National men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia’s campaign at the French Open came to an end today after losing to world number five Li Shifeng in the second round at the Glaz Arena in Rennes.

The world number 11 lost 17-21, 21-11, 21-12 in 68 minutes.

Yesterday, Zii Jia got revenge on Denmark Open champion Weng Hongyang, taking him out 21-15, 21-11 in 45 minutes.

Shifeng will take on tournament second seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Ng Tze Yong marched on to the next round after defeating home hero Arnaud Merkle of France 21-19, 21-8 in his second-round match.

The world number 18 will take on either Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien-chen or world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the next round.

Earlier, in the women’s doubles, Vivian Hoo and Lim Chiew Sien were defeated by the seventh-seeded Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti of Indonesia 21-8, 21-18 in 39 minutes. – October 26, 2023
