Colombian cops offer cash reward for info on kidnapped dad of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz

Winger’s parents had been abducted by armed assailants yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR – Colombian authorities have announced a reward of 200 million pesos (RM231,457) for anyone providing crucial information that aids in the rescue of Luis Díaz’s father.

This reward offer was disclosed by respected football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

This comes after reports stating that the Liverpool winger’s parents, Luis Manuel Díaz and Cilenis Marulanda, were abducted near their residence in Barrancas, Colombia yesterday.

The incident occurred while they were at a petrol station in the La Guajira area, where armed individuals on motorcycles took them captive.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro shared on X (formerly Twitter) the successful rescue operation of Diaz’s mother, conducted today in Barrancas, the northern region of the country.

However, the search for his father remains ongoing.

Earlier, Liverpool issued a statement addressing the distressing situation, acknowledging the “ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia” as reports emerged of the kidnapping.

“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity.

“In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority,” read the club statement.

The Colombian Football Federation condemned the situation and appealed for swift action from authorities to resolve the crisis.

They expressed solidarity with Diaz and his family, urging a rapid resolution to the issue.

Liverpool had signed Diaz from Porto in January 2022 in a significant deal.

The 26-year-old winger, who has made 11 appearances this season and scored three goals, did not participate in Liverpool’s recent Europa League victory over Toulouse but was expected to return for the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. – October 29, 2023
