State budget commits RM10 mil for Selangor FC

State sports council also gets RM8 mil for development

4:53 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – In a move to rejuvenate the glory of the Red Giants, the Selangor state government has pledged RM10 million to Selangor FC.

The announcement was made today during the state budget tabling at the state assembly by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

“To realise that dream, the state government will fully support the leadership of the crown prince of Selangor (Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah) as FA of Selangor president and (his leadership of) Selangor FC as well as the Selangor state sports council.

“The allocation of funds is to propel Selangor FC towards clinching victories in the Super League, Malaysia Cup, and Sukma by 2025,” said Amirudin.

In tandem with this commitment, the Selangor state sports council is set to receive a sum of RM8 million, reinforcing the state government’s holistic approach to sports development.

Meanwhile, Amirudin also announced a RM1 million allocation for the state e-sports team.

“E-sports players will now be recognized as athletes, and the state government will collaborate with the Youth and Sports Ministry to develop Selangor Cyber Games, establish an e-sports league in each district, and fortify the e-sports ecosystem,” he added.

Meanwhile, for Selangor’s 2024 budget, Amirudin proposed a RM2.53 billion spending plan, of which RM1.33 billion (52.6%) is for operational expenditure, and RM1.2 billion (47.4%) is for development expenditure.

Selangor’s budget for 2023 was RM2.45 billion, of which RM1.25 billion was for operational expenditure and RM1.2 billion for development expenditure. – November 10, 2023
