KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor FC are gearing up for a triumphant future, fueled by a significant boost from the state government.

This comes after Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s announcement of an allocation of RM10 million for the club when tabling Selangor’s 2024 budget yesterday.

The allocation aims to propel Selangor FC towards glory in the Super League, Malaysia Cup and Sukma by 2025.

Speaking to Scoop, Selangor FC chief executive Johan Kamal Hamidon pledged to live up to the state government’s expectations.

“We have been performing well this season and will continue to improve in every aspect, including the quality of our players, grassroots development and our facilities.

“We aim to achieve a 15-20% improvement each season leading up to 2025.

“We are currently in second place in the league and we hope to maintain our performance in the remaining three games and secure our position for next year’s AFC Cup.

“Qualifying for the second-tier competition will be a stepping stone for further achievements in the future,” said Johan when contacted.

Following the fund allocation, Johan expressed gratitude for the state government’s support and said he believed that the club was the perfect platform to unite the people of Selangor.

“Our hearts beat as one whenever Selangor FC plays. Football is a powerful tool for unity in our state, and we are delighted to see the support of the state government in elevating our organisation to meet the sporting needs of the state.

“We are happy that the menteri besar puts his trust in us and belief in our football club.

“We will use the funds strategically and efficiently by engaging with the people of Selangor through football, and we hope to achieve even better results in the future,” he added.

Selangor FC strengthened their hold on an AFC Cup slot for next season after defeating Terengganu FC 4-0 in the Super League in their last game.

The Red Giants, who currently stand second in the Super League with 52 points, have not participated in Asian-level club competitions since their 2016 AFC Cup outing, in which they failed to advance beyond the group stage. – November 11, 2023
