FAM receives show cause letter from NSC amid Suparimau League brawl investigation

Clubs suspended as FAM prepares response to Safe Sport Code violation allegations

PETALING JAYA – In response to a recent brawl during a Suparimau League match, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed receiving a show cause letter from the National Sports Council (NSC), urging an explanation for the breach in the Safe Sport Code.

This comes after Safe Sport Code safeguarding officer Melissa Akhir told Scoop that the letter was issued by the NSC in response to the altercation.

FAM secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman said the footballing body received the letter two days ago.

“NSC has asked for us to explain what happened in the incident in the Suparimau League match.

“We are currently preparing our reply to NSC and will respond to them as soon as possible,” he said.

In the meantime, Noor Azman said FAM has taken immediate action by issuing a suspension letter to the clubs involved.

“We are currently investigating the incident and it will be completed in a month.

“After the investigation has been completed we will take the result to the Disciplinary Committee to decide a suitable punishment for those involved,” he added.

More than a weeks ago, a football game in the Suparimau League in Putrajaya turned ugly as players from opposing teams were seen fighting and hurling slurs at each other in the middle of the game.

A 45-second video posted by @pengadilbola on X (formerly known as Twitter) also showed referees and officials unable to stop the escalating situation, with players chasing each other and launching kicks.

The Suparimau League, comprising over 80 competitions across 11 districts in Malaysia and sanctioned by FAM, serves as a youth football platform for participants aged five to 17. – November 13, 2023
